10  REQUIRE THE SECRETARY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

11  TO PROVIDE INFORMATION REGARDING THE SUPPLEMENTAL

12  NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM TO CERTAIN STUDENTS; AND

13  FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

17                       TO REQUIRE THE SECRETARY OF THE

18                       DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO PROVIDE

19                       INFORMATION REGARDING THE SUPPLEMENTAL

20                       NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM TO CERTAIN

21                       STUDENTS.

23 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

25  SECTION 1. Arkansas Code Title 6, Chapter 80, is amended to add an

26 additional section to read as follows:

27  6-80-111. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program information.

28  (a) The Secretary of the Department of Education shall send to each

29 student who submits a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and

30 who has a negative or zero (0) student aid index for the year written and

31 electronic information regarding:

32  (1) His or her potential eligibility for assistance under the

33 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program;

34  (2) The application process to obtain assistance under the

35 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program; and

36  (3) How to contact the Department of Human Services regarding

1 the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

2   (b) The Secretary of the Department of Education shall consult with

3 the Secretary of the Department of Human Services to design the written and

4 electronic communication required under subsection (a) of this section.
