9   AN ACT CONCERNING THE COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATION

10  ADVANCEMENT ACT OF 2021; TO ALLOW A PUBLIC HIGH

11  SCHOOL TO REQUIRE AN ENROLLED STUDENT TO EARN ONE

12  UNIT OF CREDIT IN A COMPUTER SCIENCE OR COMPUTER

13  SCIENCE-RELATED CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION COURSE

14  IN ORDER TO GRADUATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

22                       EDUCATION COURSE IN ORDER TO GRADUATE.

24 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

26  SECTION 1. Arkansas Code � 6-16-152(b)(1), concerning the requirement

27 to earn one (1) unit of credit under the Computer Science Education

28 Advancement Act of 2021, is amended to read as follows:

29  (b)(1) Beginning with the entering ninth grade class of 2022-2023 in

30 the 2025-2026 school year, a public high school student shall be required may

31 require an enrolled student to earn one (1) unit of credit in a Department of

32 Education-approved high school computer science or computer science-related

33 career and technical education course before the student graduates.

35  SECTION 2. Arkansas Code � 6-16-152(b), concerning the requirement to

36 earn one (1) unit of credit under the Computer Science Education Advancement

1 Act of 2021, is amended to add an additional subdivision to read as follows:

2   "(5) The division shall:

3               (A) Review career and technical education courses to

4 determine how computer science standards may be embedded into appropriate

5 courses; and

6               (B) Identify the career and technical education courses

7 that meet a computer science credit if required by a public high school under

8 subdivision (b)(1) of this section.
