9            AN ACT CONCERNING MATERNITY LEAVE SCHOOL PERSONNEL;

10           TO AMEND THE DAYS INCLUDED IN THE TOTAL NUMBER OF

11           MATERNITY LEAVE DAYS APPROVED BY A SCHOOL THAT OFFERS

12           MATERNITY LEAVE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

18                       BY A SCHOOL THAT OFFERS MATERNITY LEAVE.

20 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

22  SECTION 1. Arkansas Code � 6-17-122, concerning optional paid

23 maternity leave policies at public school districts and open-enrollment

24 public charter schools, is amended to add an additional subsection to read as

25 follows:

26  (d)(1)(A) Any holiday or other day during a contract year designated by

27 a school as a day on which academic classes will not be held shall not be

28 counted towards the total number of days the school approves as maternity

29 leave for an individual eligible for paid maternity leave.

30                       (B) If a day approved as maternity leave for an individual

31 eligible for paid maternity leave occurs on an unpaid contract day under the

32 individual's current contract, the day approved as maternity leave shall

33 qualify for paid maternity leave.

34           (2) As used in subdivision (d)(1) of this section, "school"

35 means a public school district, an open-enrollment public charter school, or

36 a private school that offers maternity leave either under this section or
