9   AN ACT TO AMEND THE DEFINITION OF PAID CANVASSER; AND

10  FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

15                       CANVASSER.

17 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

19  SECTION 1. Arkansas Code � 3-8-801(3), concerning the definition of a

20 "paid canvasser" for a local option election, is amended to read as follows:

21  (3) "Paid canvasser" means a person who in exchange for or as a

22 reward for soliciting or obtaining a signature on a petition:

23                       (A) is Is paid or with whom there is an agreement to pay

24 money or anything of value before or after a signature on a local option

25 election petition is solicited in exchange for soliciting or obtaining a

26 signature on a petition.; or

27                       (B) Receives anything of value before or after a signature

28 on a local option election petition is solicited;

30  SECTION 2. Arkansas Code � 7-9-601(c), concerning hiring and training

31 of paid canvassers for initiatives, referenda, and constitutional amendments,

32 is amended to read as follows:

33  (c) As used in this section, "paid canvasser" means a person who in

34 exchange for or as a reward for soliciting a signature on a petition:

35  (1) is Is paid or with whom there is an agreement to pay money

36 or anything of value before or after a signature on an initiative or

1 referendum petition is solicited in exchange for soliciting a signature on a

2 petition; or

3   (2) Receives anything of value before or after a signature on an

4 initiative or referendum petition is solicited.
