21 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

23 SECTION 1. Arkansas Code � 6-18-711, concerning administration of
24 medication for diabetes in schools, is amended to add an additional
25 subsection to read as follows:
26 (d)(1) If a school district provides educational information on
27 immunizations, infectious diseases, medications, or other school health
28 issues to parents and guardians of students in kindergarten through grade
29 twelve (K-12), the following educational information about Type 1 and Type 2
30 diabetes shall be included:
31 (A) A description of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes;
32 (B) A description of the risk factors and warning signs
33 associated with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes;
34 (C) A recommendation to the parent or guardian of a
35 student displaying warning signs associated with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes
36 that the parent or guardian consult with the student's primary care provider

1 to determine if immediate screening for Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes is
2 appropriate;
3 (D) A description of the screening processes for both Type
4 1 and Type 2 diabetes and of the significance of the stages of Type 1
5 diabetes; and
6 (E) A recommendation that, following a Type 1 or Type 2
7 diabetes diagnosis, the parent or guardian consult with the student's primary
8 care provider to develop an appropriate treatment plan.
9 (2) The Department of Education, in cooperation with the
10 Department of Health, shall develop and make available the educational
11 information about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes to school districts and on the
12 website of each department.
13 (3) Diabetes-related educational information provided by school
14 districts to parents and guardians of students as required by this subsection
15 is solely for the purposes of educational information and shall not be
16 considered or construed to be for the purposes of providing a medical
17 diagnosis.
