9 AN ACT TO AMEND ARKANSAS MUSIC APPRECIATION DAY; TO
10 CHANGE THE DATE ON WHICH ARKANSAS MUSIC APPRECIATION
11 DAY IS CELEBRATED; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

20 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

22 SECTION 1. DO NOT CODIFY. Legislative findings.
23 The General Assembly finds that:
24 (1) Arkansas musicians are important to the cultural history of
25 the state;
26 (2) Arkansas musicians have made and continue to make important
27 contributions to music in this state and beyond and deserve recognition; and
28 (3) Arkansas Music Appreciation Day should be celebrated in the
29 state by encouraging Arkansas musicians to come to the State Capitol Building
30 each March 1 to increase public appreciation of Arkansas's contributions to
31 music by playing music in the State Capitol Building rotunda.

33 SECTION 2. Arkansas Code � 1-5-117(b), concerning Arkansas Music
34 Appreciation Day, is amended to read as follows:
35 (b) September March 1 of each year shall be known as "Arkansas Music
36 Appreciation Day" to honor the contributions of Arkansas musicians.

2 SECTION 3. Arkansas Code � 1-5-117(d), concerning Arkansas Music
3 Appreciation Day, is amended to read as follows:
4 (d) Each year before September March 1, the Governor shall issue a
5 proclamation proclaiming September March 1 as Arkansas Music Appreciation Day
6 and in the proclamation shall:
7 (1) Comment on the significance of the contributions that
8 Arkansas musicians have made to the nation's music; and
9 (2) Call upon the citizens of the state to observe Arkansas
10 Music Appreciation Day.
