18 PEACE TO ALSO SERVE AS A POLICE OFFICER
19 IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES.

21 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

23 SECTION 1. Arkansas Code � 14-14-115(a)(1), concerning civil office
24 holdings for county officials, is amended to read as follows:
25 (a)(1) Except as provided in subsection (c) of this section, A a
26 person elected or appointed to any of the following county offices shall not
27 be elected or appointed to another civil office during the term for which he
28 or she has been elected:
29 (A) County judge;
30 (B) Justice of the peace;
31 (C) Sheriff;
32 (D) Circuit clerk;
33 (E) County clerk;
34 (F) Assessor;
35 (G) Coroner;
36 (H) Treasurer;

1 (I) County surveyor; or
2 (J) Collector.

4 SECTION 2. Arkansas Code � 14-14-115(c), concerning civil office
5 holdings for county officials, is amended to add an additional subdivision to
6 read as follows:
7 (c) This section does not prevent a person:
8 (1) From being elected or appointed to an office under
9 subdivision (a)(1) of this section if he or she held a civil office before
10 January 1, 2017; or
11 (2) From continuing to hold a civil office the person held
12 before appointment or election to an office under subdivision (a)(1) of this
13 section; or
14 (3) Who was elected or appointed as a justice of the peace from
15 serving as a city police officer or school resource officer as described in �
16 6-10-128 outside the quorum court district he or she represents during his or
17 her term.
