18 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

20 SECTION 1. DO NOT CODIFY.
21 (a) Effective January 1, 2027, the offices of sheriff and tax
22 collector in Montgomery County, Arkansas, shall be separate offices.
23 (b) At the 2026 general election, the electors of Montgomery County
24 shall elect both a sheriff and a tax collector, and each officer so elected
25 shall take office on January 1, 2027.
26 (c) The sheriff and the tax collector in Montgomery County shall each
27 give bond for the faithful performance of their respective duties as provided
28 by law.
29 (d) The sheriff and the tax collector of Montgomery County shall each
30 receive compensation that shall be determined by the Montgomery County Quorum
31 Court within the minimum and maximum compensation range prescribed by the
32 General Assembly and shall hire deputies and have other allowances as
33 prescribed by the Montgomery County Quorum Court.
