10       UNDER THE TEACHER EXCELLENCE AND SUPPORT SYSTEM; AND

11       FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

16                       REQUIREMENTS UNDER THE TEACHER

17                       EXCELLENCE AND SUPPORT SYSTEM; AND FOR

18                       OTHER PURPOSES.

20 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

21

22       SECTION 1. Arkansas Code � 6-17-2806(d), concerning the requirement

23 for novice teacher mentoring under the Teacher Excellence and Support System,

24 is amended to read as follows:

25       (d)(1) The Teacher Excellence and Support System also shall include

26 novice teacher mentoring for each novice teacher employed at the public

27 school that:

28                       (1)(A) Provides training and support to novice teachers to

29 increase teacher retention;

30                       (2)(B) Establishes norms of professionalism; and

31                       (3)(C) Leads to improved student achievement by increasing

32 effective teacher performance.

33       (2) However, a novice teacher who has completed a Division of

34 Elementary and Secondary Education-approved year-long residency is not

35 required to participate in novice teacher mentoring under this subsection

36 (d).
